Today was amazing. Each of us has the power to make a new tomorrow. One man with a dream to build schools for impoverished children in Myanmar’s rural areas, Furusho-San, with his NGO, Pagoda Japan, has devoted himself to making that dream come true. Our students had the privilege of sharing that dream of kindness today. We visited two schools, hours away from Yangon, bringing school supplies, musical instruments, toys, and clothing to over 450 children. We sang, made origami together, and played together. （すばらしい一日でした。私たちひとりひとりには「明日を創造する力」があります。「パゴダの会」を主宰する古庄重生さんはミャンマーの地方の村に住む貧しい子どもたちのために長年、学校をいくつも建設し続けています。それが古庄さんの夢であり、余生を捧げておられます。私たちは今日、その夢を共有させてもらう機会に恵まれました。ヤンゴンから数時間移動し、古庄さんが建設された学校のうち、二校を訪問しました。日本から持ってきた学校用品、楽器、オモチャ、衣類などを４５０人以上の子どもたちに手渡ししました。そして一緒に歌を歌い、折り紙を折り、外で遊びました。
There is nothing more joyful than a child’s smile and the sound of children playing peacefully together. It is the sound of peace. Our day was full of shared joy and the hope for a better future for everyone. 子どもたちの笑顔、そして一緒に元気よく遊ぶ声が響き渡る光景は、最高にすばらしいですね。子どもたちの声は平和な響きであるとも言えるでしょう。今日という一日は、みんなで分かち合う喜びに満ち、より良い未来への希望にも満ちたものでした。
※この写真は小学校の子どもたちですが、顔には「タナカー」という日焼け止めの効果があるとされる柑橘系のおしろいのようなものを塗っています。また、本校生徒がプレゼントしたシールもぺタペタ顔に貼ったようです。
When I asked our students why they think today was an important day for us, their answers were thoughtful and interesting. Some students are interested in education and in seeing different types of schools around the world. Others said they were impressed with how there are no language barriers when people simply have a desire to try and share time together. （私は生徒に「今日がなぜ私たちにとって大切な一日だったと思う？」と聞いてみました。生徒の答えは思慮深く、興味深いものでした。教育に関心を寄せる生徒、世界の様々な学校を見てみたいと言う生徒、「一緒に時間を過ごしたい」と思ったら、意外にことばの壁は感じない」と答えた生徒。
Everyone was deeply moved and thought deeply about the power of a dream after their experience today. As Mr. Scott Slabaugh of ISM said, we all have the power to make a better tomorrow. Tomorrow starts with today’s youth – it was an honor for Jogakuin to be a part of making a better tomorrow and peaceful future for the children of Myanmar and all of us, everywhere.（今日一日を終え、生徒はみんな深い感動を覚え、「夢の力」について思いをめぐらせました。ISM（ミャンマーインターナショナルスクール）でお世話になっているスコット・スレイバーさんも「だれしも、より良い明日を創造する力がある」と言います。「明日」は若者の手に委ねられています。女学院生がミャンマーの子どもたちだけでなく、自分たち自身の明日が、未来がより良いもので、平和なものであるよう、その一助となれたことは高く評価できるでしょう。）
